NJ Transit Stories.

Filed under: General — harini @

Early morning rush is an episode of its own, getting up in the morning ,making lunch ,tea andd getting ready is all fine, happenning in the normal pace, but once we finish our breakfast we realise that we are running out of time and we dont start in 1 min I am going to miss the train.it would 7.03 am and the train is at 7.18am.Rush begins we run downstairs sudhar will take out the car yelling at me not to keep standing and to run and jump into the car but how?i have to close the garage door and how can i close it when the car is right in the middle of it?anyway,i will jump in and before i would have closed the door the car will take a rash turn…….. somwhow we will manage to beat the trafic and reach the station at 7.15am wow we have 3 more minutes and we made it, its like an acheivement everyday, now is the time to sit and relax in the car,yes i know i can rather go and stand in the track, but y i would rather spend some leisure time in the morning talking to sudhar(because i dont have any other time to talk to him what to do ?? poor me :)).
At 7.18 sharp i can see the lights blinking and bells ringing far in the track, time to prove my atheletic stamina, i get off the car hurridly saying bye and run to the track, which he explains as some kid who doesn’t know walking, will run Totaka Potaka!!! anyway i make it and am good at it because there will be a time when me and train will be running together parallelly ,I would scolding people within myself for standing in my way and not letting me run but its fine i have the capacity to beat the traffic and make it to my compartment. I get in, and find a peaceful corner seat and and start looking around me.
All kind of people go in the train,no one is an exception, people definitely have a lotttttttttttttttttt of time to put on make up in the morning and come, i think they put on make in the night and and sleep with it that way they are ready in the morning what say??? The chinese are the best i dont know where in heaven they get time for so much, matching sweater, scarf, gloves, lipstick and they walk proudly with a high heel “tok tok”.Let them have fun, then few with coffee ,breakfast .book and last but not the least, earphone, cdman, and “IPOD”.Most of the guys read Newspapers, and women read novels. Now people like me, take out novels, put on ear phonesand look around for people, there are few people whom i really admire in my train journey but sometimes one big elephant will come and sit next to you and block the wonderful view, then i definitely dont have any other option but sleeping.after finishing 4 pages of the book and watching enough out of the window .Not many people are lucky to sleep in the train :).Now comes the main part, showing the pass ot the conductor! If you are awake its fine, but what ifI am deep in sleep, I must say conductors are so good, they won’t disturb you if you are sleeping,You can just hold you pass tightly in your hands and sleep,he will peep in and look at it and walk off :)how nice.
We get down in Newark, after rushing to another track and a few delays because of some switch problem and power failure we finally get another train ,but sometimes the reasons for the delays are veyr strange and unexpected. Once a lady got Heart Attack in the train and as they couldnt move her we had to change our train. One such strnage thing happenned today also.No one would ever guess the reason, even I didn’t know untill i heard someone talking about it.”One lady was having a baby in the train” I am serious, is that baby not lucky to be a NJ Transit citizen, will it not be proud to be called as one,may be first ever NJ Transit baby! Will it get free citizenship and free rides in NJT? Can it travel without pass?Anyway mom and baby both are safe and must be travelling back home in NJT :).
After delays i reached office 15 mins late and started my work, but this blog in between is interrupting me in my work.So i shall better get back :)
Cheers

Expensive Ring !

Filed under: General — harini @

Now that I work in a jewllery store I see various types of people, rich poor, cheap generous ,indian ,american and international.Talking to various kinds of people with different accents and likings is fun,its good to know their taste help them with various things and ideas. We also meet short tempered people who get angry for small things at the same time people who are so cool calm and patient for the biggest blunders.God has definitely taken a lot of time to make all of us with our own different unique characteristics.
One such character I met a few days back! On fine morning our owner showed a big diamond stone ,it wasn’t huge,it was humungous. The biggest diamond i have ever seen in my life.It was a 2.5 carat stone.I didnt take it seriously that day i jsut saw exclaimed and left.Yesterday it came out in a shape of a very pretty sparkiling ring in white gold! And when we were standing around looking at it, I suddenly asked what the price is of that ring and after hearing it I couldnt believe my eyes.It was $21,000(10.5 lakh rupees ONLY!!!!!!!!!).Can you believe it??????????????
One guys is buying a ring worth $21,000 for a girl who is not even married to him yet!Poor chap, he used some 4 or 5 different cards to pay the total amount, and he himself doenst know when he would be able to pay that amount, as he isnt doing very well right now(he confessed himself)but what to do poor soul had to satisfy his girlfriend!
Shall we feel good for that girl who is so lucky that this guy is ready to do anything for her?Or shall we feel bad for him who is so madly and blindly in love with her that is ready to do anything for beyond his own limits. Can he rely on such a woman who doenst understand his feeling and instead of supporting him is asking for such a stupid thing which he cannot afford easily? Will he be happy with her?Is diamond or an expensive ring everything in her life?Is love faithfulness and affection nothing?
Well god only can answer for these questions but one thing is sure our company did earn a good profit!:)which is definitely good for us!
Cheers….

Happy New Year!

Filed under: General — harini @

Its still like a dream that we are already in tthe 5th year of the millenium, I remember when it was 2k people always spoke about Y2K problem and no one would want to call anyone at 12 in the night :).Now its 2005.Last year our first new year together we were in New Mexico Santa Fe.
“‘For a long time we thought if its goood to go and hang out and enjoy our new year when crores of people are greiving and mourning the loss of their relatives and friends because of the Tsunami. But then we thought that probably its good to go as this new year might come in as ray of hope and bring a lot more better things for us and other people to look fwd to.”
Then we decided to go to the NYC to see the famous Apple Drop. Hari/Visa and their friend Bhart/Karti also were joining us.Luckily it was a friday. We started around 12 from home and after leaving our car in the Newark Penn station we came in Path train to NYC.We reached around 1.30 and walked to the times square. It didnt look very crowded but full of Cops.I have never seen so many together in my entire life.Anyway as there was a lot o screening and no bags and beverages were allowed we didnt take anything much, and confortably found a place for ourselves right underneath the apple drop.We had another 10 hours to kill.We had taken our ipod books everything but is it possible to sit down in the middle of 100,000 people and peacefully listen to music, i think not!We tried every possible thing to kill it and somehow managed .May be because we were 6 of us together. We met Radha there, she had come to pick her friend up.Anyway Hari and Bharat and went and bought a Pizza.do you know how much it cost them???????????? No noone can guess it.It cost them $35 for 10 slices.Crazy isnt it?People slowly started gathering around that area, and as the crowd grows they started closing the Blocks.I remember me and sudharshan talking before we started for Times Square,He asked me Harini whats the strategy if we get lost? Then he siad ok no worries u have ur cel phone and i have mine so we an communicate etc etc…..Now was the time to plan a strategy,We 3 girls wanted to go,it took us long to search for a restroom in some small restaurant as there were no public restrooms located there, finally after searching aorund we reached a small junky pizza place and went it , we also bought 2 cappucinos anyway, when we came back that block was closed, and he wont let us in.But after pleading he agreed that ifhe would see our respective husbands he would let us in.Nowwas the time to use the strategy we planned well in advance for these kind of problems.I called sudhar, but waitwhat was vibrating in my bag? After few vibrations when i peeped into my bag i saw something similar to SKCHARY’s cellphone! Now what to do with the wonderful strategy we made????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? How to communicate?Luckily visa had a cell phoen she tried calling Hari, but Alas! he wont pick up.Now was karti’s turn ,luckily bharat picked up, by the time she was explaining things to him, the cop got angyr and told me lady! u got 2 more secs and if i dont see them i change my mind! Finally bharat walked out and saved us !Somehow we killed another few hours, but karti go a headache and decided to leave,Bharat accompanied her, they had also got some idlies from home,we ate that and killed another few hours, now it was 10 pm,we felt somewhat better and happy that we passed so much of time .We were getting tired, and as the crowd increased we were not allowed to sit as they wanted to accomodate more people near the ball!Visa sat for a while and then sudhar.Somehow the countdown began at 11.58pm.It was not far and we also made it through the end.The celebrations began, fireworks the cheering crowd people throwing confetti, and balloons. In and around timesqaure were a lot of hotels which were fully booked, and we could see the people peeping out of their windows. The ball came down and stopped at a point(that was ball drop:)).Fortunately the weather wasnt veyr cold, it was a little warmer than usual. We could all survive through it.Once it was over all 1 million people started walking out, we were neared to the exit so it took us only half hour , but we had to walk one extra block to reach the station.Legs were breaking into pieces, our back was stiff and paining as a result of standing for 10 hours. Was it all worth?Yes it was, jsut for the last 5 mins of celebrations, :).Once in a lifetime yaar!We might not come next year. But we can definitely say we have see it live :).
We reached home around 3 and slept woke up around 10 am.The day was usual after lunch slept again:) and then hari/visa and bharat/karti came home. They were here till 11 and then left.Sunday was usual with grocery shopping etc.I am enjoying my off on monday. The routine will start again tomorrow. The 5 day break was fun and refreshing!
